Weddings Need a Rebranding

Howdy!

My name is Thalia Stoffers and I am a senior at the University of Oregon studying public relations and legal studies. As my college journey nears its end, one career interest has remained prominent — being a wedding industry professional. Taking my love for the industry with me, I plan to hunt for small businesses, social media accounts, and magazine forums all working towards one unique goal of reimagining traditions.

I have always loved fashion and adding a pop of color when dressing up. Fashion and design are unique forms of self-expression in that a person does not need to say anything to express their identity. Weddings mirror that expressionism.

The world has changed, like, a lot. These changes reflect a growing concern for sustainability, cultural diversity, and a shift away from some overused traditions. This excites me. I believe weddings should adapt to the changes. The advent of sustainable decor and floristry, combined with the rise of unconventional colors in wedding-wear reflect the industry’s revolution. This shift is long overdue — weddings are in need a desperate rebranding. A rebranding centered around modern ideals of expression.

I know that you are searching to make your day perfect — yet different. And that’s what I love about you! Traditional banquet weddings with the white dress and black suit are boring and so 2010. What keeps my passion for the industry alive? Knowing that slowly but surely, weddings are moving in a direction where wearing bright dresses and having sustainable decorations are welcomed.

I will be the source that guides you through the quirky professionals and services that exist. I’ll seek out what has worked and what hasn’t, who is making strides in unconventional wedding designing, and where to find the goods.

My blogs will be centered around:

  • Sustainable materials
  • Untraditional design concepts
  • Unconventional fashion choices
  • The inclusion of cultures without adhering to traditional American wedding practices

Let’s talk about my qualifications. I completed two prior wedding internships where I worked alongside wedding planning CEO’s in Los Angeles. Running a business with the customer’s vision at the forefront of my mind is what it’s all about. This will be a space for those planning a wedding to complete their a-typical wedding vision.

I have had a small jewelry business through Instagram and know that selling unique products on social media is difficult. Ultimately, this blog will connect businesses struggling to sell their niche party services to a customer who will appreciate them.

Perhaps you’re somebody who is getting married and is anxiously trying to find that perfect centerpiece. Maybe you’re a wedding planner trying to connect with a venue where you can let your imagination unfold. Whatever led you here, I’m here to help you find the pieces that put together a wedding puzzle full of diverse expressionism.

The reimagining continues next week when I’ll be looking at industry news.

Until then,

Thalia
