Celebrities have been influencing us for years, there’s no doubt about it. From certain foods, vacation spots, to garments, celebrities have an influence over us that’s undeniable. Like all the other industries that they’ve influenced, celebrities have made a direct impact on trends that wedding professionals should take a note of.

Let’s take a look at three different nontraditional celebrity weddings, while I break down the ways these unique type of ceremonies and style choices will have an influence in the years to come. Keep in mind that all of these celebrities have a set brand image — as actors and influencers, these celebrities are their own business entities who often portray their brand image via Instagram.

Who Says You Can’t Wear a Little Black Dress to Your Reception?

Kourtney Kardashian’s now infamous Italian wedding will go down as one of the most influential wedding concepts we’ve seen from a celebrity — at least in the year 2022. Dolce and Gabbana provided the looks for nearly every member of her family, and were the masterminds behind all of her elaborate wedding looks. However, her mini black dress reception look takes the cake. 

Over the years we’ve seen reception dresses begin to take a new forms. Gone are the days where brides stay in the same dress they walked down the aisle in, and for Kourtney, this was no different.

I predict that Kourtney Kardashian’s 2 million likes on this particular Instagram post, showing off her sultry black reception dress will influence the industry. Not only will black dresses begin to be on the rise because of her social influence, but because of what this symbolizes. 

A celebrity wearing a little black dress to a wedding almost makes one stop and think, “Hey I could do that too.” Kourtney’s black dress may not be revolutionary per se, but it does give the OK to many brides out there that want to push their boundary of what a reception dress could look like.

Turns out actor Adrian Grenier is really well-spoken – this Instagram caption almost made me cry. Grenier’s love for his now wife, Jordan Roemmele, led to their whirlwind, random and incredibly romantic elopement ceremony in the middle of their Moroccan vacation. No really, they used strings as rings — it was that random.

Grenier told People magazine “We were with a group of incredible friends, all of whom immediately rallied behind us and embraced the spontaneity of the moment … They put in so much love and effort to create a wedding from thin air.”

The couple’s elopement ceremony consisted of a breathtaking moutnisasous background, low-formality guest attire, and an informal bouquet — clearly plucked by hand. All and all, this event was hand-crafted by people who love them, in a beautiful location without any proper planning. It begs the question: Are more people going to do stuff like this?

For all my planners out there, I wouldn’t be too worried. While Grenier’s wedding is one of many elopement ceremonies we see happening among millennial weddings, a good old-fashion planned wedding is still on the table.

How might this influence the industry, though? I predict weddings like Grenier’s will serve as inspo for couples that want to lean into the idea of having intimate, bohemian, and personalized weddings. I would pay attention to ways clients might want to add elements of spontaneity into their big day, as well as anticipating trends in informal ceremony settings.

How His Wedding Reflects His Brand Image

Since his early 2000s movie heartthrob days, Grenier has actually shifted his brand image in a way you might not have expected. Grenier often posts things on his Instagram, to his 701k followers, about sustainability, earth advocacy, and just overall gives a sense of being an eco-friendly kind of guy. Perfectly enough, this post about his wedding ties in with the sustainability and eco-friendly vibe that he puts off on his Instagram.

It’s hard to pin down the exact influence Grenier’s wedding has had, yet. Although he definitely received a lot of news coverage, there is a noticeable correlation between a rise of elopements and Moroccan elopements since his wedding.

  • The influential bridal magazine, BRIDES, reported on his elopement using the sub-caption “They didn’t plan it!” to drive home the message that their wedding was spontaneous and supporting that choice.
  • Two months later, BRIDES put out this article about how to plan an unforgettable elopement. Coincidence? I think not.
  • I am not saying Grenier invented Moroccan elopements, but Bridal Musings did write this article 3 months after his wedding — encouraging their readers to elope in Morocco.

Lily Collins got married at a remote Colorado retreat — and it was absolutely breathtaking. More specifically, she got married at the Dunton Hot Springs where her wedding was the epitome of rustic charm. 

Collins is a very famous actress from England who married director Charlie McDowell. She walked down the aisle on country-style blankets and got married under a completely rustic wooden beam. Her decor was tastefully mismatched, from the seating to the flowers. 

The key take away to take away from Collins’ wedding? The trend of mismatched and country-style wedding decor. From a folk band a random pillow assortment that fit the aesthetic perfectly, Collins’ wedding serves as an example of what couples could very easily want in the future.

I predict that weddings like Collins will be on the rise as they offer couples looking for something different, but do not stray to away from tradition the chance to indulge in a beautiful yet creative dream. These photos capture the essence of the mismatched rustic charm I’m talking about.

An actress who played Snow White gets married in the woodlands… yea, that makes sense. On her Instagram, with 26.9m followers, Collins portrays her brand image by being a classy and professional woman, posting selfies, promoting her acting jobs, and often sharing a look into her personal life. By sharing photos of her big day, Collins adheres to her personal yet reserved Instagram brand image.
